Week 4 Blog Post - Miles

The goal of my project is to make the Basic Utility Vehicle more practical by increasing its utility. To do this, I am to create a hydraulic power pack attachment that can be used to power a brick press, a well drill, a rock crusher, and potentially anything that runs on hydraulic pressure. This is exciting because it will bring hydraulic power to Cameroonians who haven’t had much, if any, access to it. It will make repetitive, physically demanding jobs easier and faster.

Right now I am evaluating the possible solutions that have been brainstormed, choosing which one to design in detail. One option is to start with a log splitter, or some other hydraulic machine and either modify it or strip it for parts. Another potential solution is to start with a hydraulic power pack and repurpose that to be run off the engine of the BUV. Of course, we can always design the power pack and components from the component level, without purchasing any significant hydraulic machine.

Happy 4th of July!
