My project is intended to develop upon an existing design
concept for the primary actuator of an active ankle-foot orthosis (AAFO). The
actuator itself is to be designed as an internal combustion cylinder and
optimized for expected pressure and force loadings. The design should take into
consideration the application and thus the natural human ankle torques. If time allows, work will be
completed to characterize a predicted pressure-volume curve for the cylinder’s
power cycle.
